NEW LOOK! NEW POST! Disney Califor..err...Construction Adventure.

Hey All!  Now I know its been a week or so since my last update but I have had to catch up on a few things at work and had no time for the blog. Now I have time and I have not alot of info to share, but info nonetheless

As all of you know Disney California Adventure park is in the middle(literally 1/2 way done) with its massive 1.2 Billion dollar expansion.  Just recently Sunshine Plaza entered Yesterland. Current plan with Buena Vista Street is( as you all know) to do it in 4 sections. First of course as you can see is Carthay Circle Theater and Walt Disney Plaza area. Then come January the C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letters will also enter Yesterland and thats when the true operational headaches start. So as they close current turnstiles in January as well as the California letter, they will open temporary turnstiles(which location is still to be determined). They will work very quickly on the new turnstiles, as they want to have them done by the middle of summer season during its peak period. Then they will start on the stores and restaurants, which is supposed to start in Spring 2011 for a grand opening of June 2012. So all of Buena Vista Street will be complete June 2012, but sections will open up along the way. And expect a fantastic new daytime parade in 2012 as well, which is shaping up to be one of the most innovative parades Disney has ever done. More on that in the weeks to come.

On the other side of the park, is the location of one of the most popular shows in Disney history. I am speaking of World of Color of course. Which as of a couple weeks ago, has been seen my more than 1 million guests. The new addition, TRONcore, opened to rave reviews from the online community and guests in the parks. This is not the only addition planned for this nighttime spectacular. Expect the Pirates section of the show to be removed and replaced with something new come next May, so that Pirates of the Caribbean will become a new Encore promoting Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides. The long rumored Halloween overlay and Holiday overlay is gaining quite a bit of momentum. There may still be a possibility of adding late this holiday season some sort of Christmas themed Encore to replace the exit music. But that is a very slim chance at this point. Expect a very grand 20+ minutes Halloween World of Color in 2011, and a remake of a Disney California Adventure original, LuminAria. LuminAria has beautiful music and will be used once again come Holiday season 2011.

Thanks all, but that is all I have to share. Have a Magical Day!

This Week in Disney History: Nov. 6 - 12

robinhood_500.jpgNov. 8, 1973 - Walt Disney Pictures releases "Robin Hood"
Plenty of films have been made about the legendary English archer of Sherwood Forest who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor, but come on, this one had a singing rooster! It's somewhat based in canon, as "The Rooster" is called Allan-a-Dale by the other characters, who according to folktales was a minstrel accompanying Robin Hood's band of merry men. He probably didn't sound a lot like Roger Miller, the country music legend who provided the voice and three songs from the soundtrack, but then again, Little John wasn't a bear and Prince John wasn't a perpetually thumb-sucking lion, either. This fan favorite and Academy Award nominee (for the song "Love," by George Bruns and Floyd Huddleston) was directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, who helmed seven Disney animated features spanning from "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" (1961) to "The Rescuers"(1977).

Nov. 10, 1998 - Innoventions officially opens at Disneyland ParkThere couldn't be a better place than Tomorrowland, and a more appropriate building than the former home of the Carousel of Progress for this showcase of future technologies. In fact, Tomorrowland's Audio-Animatronic mayor Tom Morrow (see what they did there?) greets visitors with a jaunty reworking of the Sherman Brothers' classic theme, "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow." At Innoventions, you'll step into the Dream Home of the Elias family, where new technology is incorporated into every aspect of their life. Feel free to play with the touch screen coffee tables, change the background music or just check out what's in the fridge. Upstairs, the hands-on atmosphere continues with more interactive exhibits about science, health and communication, plus an opportunity to meet Honda's bipedal robot, ASIMO. Innoventions also has been at the heart of Future World at Epcot since 1994.

Flight 51411 on the Starspeeder 1000 delayed? Tomorowland Tuesday!

Hey all, this is my first post on updates at the Disneyland Resort. This Tuesday we are going to feature Tomorrowland. First up, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

Well you are probably curious as to why my post says Flight 51411. Well that is to stand for 5-14-2011, as this was the date Star Tours: The Adventures Continue was supposed to open.  Now early word out of Tomorrowland is that the proposed and very much publicized grand opening of the 20 year in the making re-do of the classic Tomorrowland attraction may be pushed back as much as 7 months. The only reason I post this is because the fact, as of last week, it was something I did not believe. Until management starting telling regular CM's about the change. So as of now, it looks as if the re-do of Star Tours may not officially open until first part of 2012. So Flight 51411, may now change to Flight 10612. Now this may or may not happen, but in its current state, it looks very likely.

Now from bad Star Tours news, to good. You guys are going to be amazingly surprised by how elaborate and detailed the new themeing in the BRAND NEW queue line is. WDI is really hard at work to make it feel alot like the airport of the future. And the new color scheme of the new queue line looks surprisingly like the rest of Tomorrowland. Lots of Blue and Silver. Now, I cant give away exact details about the new queue line, but all I can say is, you might see a particularly familiar pilot in the queue line  as he is training to become a pilot. As you all know, this new version of Star Tours is sort of a pre-quel to the original.

Now on to some very cool info. Depending on the success of Star Tours, the clever folks up at Glendale are looking at(as you know) the Innovetions building and Peoplemover track. Now you would think this would be perfect for 2 attractions, One E-ticket and one C-Ticket. But WDI has something bigger in mind. They are going to be making the planned to be demolished Innoventions building, and the Peoplemover track, one single major E-ticket. They plan on making the Innoventions building a very detailed and immersive show building for the new E-ticket, and the finish to this amazing experience would be a high speed race around Tomorrowland.  There will be a major refurb to the existing Peoplemover track, and we will be getting rid of some track as well as adding new pieces of track. On the table right now, is finally some banked turns at the newly redesigned Tomorrowland entrance. Now the theme to this attraction is obvious.......Tron. Current plan(as most of you know) is to return the Astro Orbitor back to the top of the Observatron where it belongs, and it will sport a new look, think Hong Kong Disneyland.

One last bit of info which is almost 100% happening. I dont have any details about the attraction itself but as of now Captain Eo will change the world one last time at the end of 2012. Then come late 2013, WALL-E will be embarking on another galactic adventure and this time, Tomorrowland is the destination. That is unfortunately all I know of right now on this particular attraction.

Thank you all for reading and I will have an update this Thursday about some more TRON related news, but at Disney California Adventure. This Thursday will be dedicated to new World Of Color news. Thanks again, and have a magical day.

This Week in Disney History: Oct. 23-29

Oct. 24, 1982 - Epcot is officially dedicated at the Walt Disney World Resort--When Walt Disney announced his Florida project in 1965, an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow was a cornerstone of the original plans for Walt Disney World. Although this dream was ultimately deferred from the resort's 1971 opening, Walt Disney Productions president Card Walker and a determined army of Imagineers was determined to realize Walt's vision. Card announced plans for Epcot Center on Oct. 1, 1978; groundbreaking took place Oct. 24, 1979 at 9 a.m. 25 million man hours and almost precisely three years to the minute later, as he promised, Card stood in front of Spaceship Earth to lead its dedication ceremony. The 300-acre park is divided into two sections: Future World, which showcases new technology and the promise of tomorrow; and World Showcase, an international festival celebrating the history, culture, cuisine and beauty of nine countries. "Epcot Center is inspired by Walt Disney's creative genius," said Card in dedicating the park. "And, above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere."
Oct. 29, 1993 - Walt Disney Pictures releases The Nightmare Before Christmas--Jack Skellington is the king of what he does: bringing terror to the world every October 31st. Yet while the denizens of Halloween Town celebrate another successful holiday, Jack realizes he's tired of scaring people. On a walk deep into the forest, he discovers a portal into the world of Christmas Town. Though he doesn't understand everything he sees, the holiday becomes his obsession, and Jack is determined to improve upon it (although his plan includes kidnapping the Sandy Claws). Sally, a rag doll smitten with Jack, has a disturbing vision that compels her to stop him, while the menacing Oogie Boogie has plans of his own. Tim Burton wrote the poem that inspired the story as a Disney animator in the early 1980s; the idea broadened into a musical over several years, with Henry Selick directing the stop-motion animation that took two years to film. The score was the third in a long-standing collaboration between Burton and composer/Oingo Boingo front man Danny Elfman (provider of Jack's singing voice), which continued this year with Walt Disney Pictures' Alice in Wonderland. This is Jack's tenth year of decking the Haunted Mansion Holiday halls at Disneyland Park.
